Competition Report October 2008

Monday, October 6th, 2008

There is not much to report on this month results wise, as there has been little happening for our TSOA competition drivers since the last issue of TRak. I will report separately on the Queensland Nationals in next month’s issue.

That only leaves us looking forward – and there is still plenty of action coming up over the next few months.

Why not set off for Lobethal over the weekend of 11th and 12th October for the Historic Demonstration being held there to commemorate past motor racing action that occurred in many of our country towns way back in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Who can remember the Australian Grand Prix of 1936 in Victor Harbor, 1939 in Lobethal, and 1950 in Nuriootpa? Port Wakefield saw a young Jack Brabham win in 1955 and Lex Davison scored a win at Mallala in 1961.

Lobethal is getting ready for the 70th anniversary of the 1939 event to be celebrated next year. “Black Bess” is running, so why not go and have a look.

The SA Hill Climb Championship is being conducted over the following weekend of the 18th / 19th October – always a great event with a wide variety of vehicles competing.

The Austin Seven Club is hosting a round of their Modern Regularity event in conjunction with the SA SuperKarts on October 19th at Mallala and the MSCA hosts Round 4 of the Super Sprint Series (the final event for 2008) on Sunday October 26th also at Mallala.

That’s enough from me . . . . see you trackside! Roger

Girl Torque for October 2008

Well girls we survived 6,000 kilometres in Triumphs’ travelling to Queensland and back for the Nationals.   Wow what an adventure!

We travelled in convoy to sunny Queensland, where we were greeted by our northern South Australian’s…Joan and Pearce Bowman, at registration, followed by greetings from Barb and Geoff Cugley and Jean and Peter Boxall. It just felt like being at our own event – it was great to see our club members again.

All in all there were 25 South Australians who attended the Nationals, and we had a fabulous week!  A few minor car problems, but nothing the boys couldn’t handle!  Well done to everyone who took on the challenge – how many will head off to WA next year?

Just a small reminder that the final Girls Technical lunch for the year will be on Tuesday November 10th at Café Buongiorno at Mitcham – see you all there!

Best wishes to all Margie Berlemon

Social Report October 2008

The Qld Nationals was a great week of activities and camaraderie and I hope all who participated enjoyed themselves.

The Bay to Birdwood Breakfast saw 38 people enjoy a hearty cooked breakfast whilst watching the passing parade of motor vehicles.

The mid week run on 1st October saw 13 people partake of a blustery run through the Adelaide Hills to the German Township of Hahndorf, where we had lunch at the German Arms Hotel.  Some club members went directly to the Hotel for lunch.

Next ladies lunch at Cafe Buongiorno Mitcham is on Tuesday 11th November at 12.00noon.  This will be the final one for the year.

The Tony Esau Memorial Trophy observation run is on 16th November, bring clipboard, pen, chairs, table and drinks.  The club will put on a BBQ at the destination.

The Christmas Dinner is fast approaching and final payment is required no later than the November meeting please.  The venue is the Royal Adelaide Golf Club  which has plenty of off street parking.
