Presidential Update

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

Easter is here already, the year seems to be going so fast, lots of great quality events so far, and especially with all the events fast approaching also I think the year is going to be one to remember.

I see the TSOA WA have already pencilled in an agenda and dates for the 2014 National Rally so if you are a long term planner, check their website for more details.

I also have some long term plans for our club. I want to keep it fun and exciting and grow it however we can. At the latest meeting I mentioned there are Triumphs for sale, over 70 across the internet in Australia, so encourage your friends and family to turn off the TV then consider filling that void in their life with a classic car and some wonderful social events and the best group of south Aussies they will ever meet. They can then show us their new pride and joy on stage at an upcoming meeting.

At the last meeting a member put forth a suggestion of what he would like to see in the magazine , don’t be shy. Especially those members who for what ever reason can’t attend meetings, please feel welcome to pass on ideas and suggestions for perhaps your only communication with the club.

We are also seeking a new Magazine Editor this year, if you would love to learn the ropes and some new computer skills, or already have skills in that area, we would love to hear from you.

Until next time , safe and happy travels.

Sporting Triumphs – March 2013

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Hi and welcome to another month of Sporting Triumphs.

Our Triumph sporting calendar commences with the MSCA Supersprint series on Sunday 24th of March. I wish all of our Triumph competitors good fortune for the coming season.

The MSCA picnic presentation day was held in extremely hot conditions. Combined with the fact that the All British Day was held the week earlier possibly explains the poor attendance by our club. Hopefully next year with some extra notice and some pleasant weather we can again have a display of Triumphs at next year’s event.

The Sporting Car Club is hosting the National Historic race meeting over Easter. Saturday and Sunday is circuit racing at Mallala. Clubs are welcome to participate in a display day on Saturday to be held on the lawns behind the control tower with parade laps around the circuit during the lunch break. If you wish to display your car you can find details and entry forms on the Sporting Club website . . .

Easter Monday hillclimb at Collingrove    great day to have a picnic.

Until Next Month,

Rick Staehr

Socially Speaking – March 2013

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

All British Day at the Echunga Oval was a great day for all. With 880 British Cars to look at, food and fairs to be enjoyed by all. Great new venue and beaut weather all added to the day. A huge thank you to Arrand Ellery and those who assisted in any way to set up our club display.

Bob Cini has volunteered to join me on the ABD Committee next year to keep our club presence and involvement strong.

Ladies lunch held on the 12th February at the new venue Adelina’s Café at Burnside Civic Centre was also a good move. Numbers were up and a good time was had by all.  Next meeting will be at the same venue on 9th April.

Next mid week run is an afternoon run on 6th March followed by Sunday 17th March to Tenafeate Creek winery at One Tree Hill where we have enjoyed good food and fellowship before – my son Dean and wife Tammy have set this run – their very first attempt at setting a club run.

April 21st is a must diary date for our Annual Breakfast run which this year will be Brunch.

Margie and I have been busy organising this year’s annual weekender and have put together what we believe to be a fabulous program for this year. Some very interesting places to visit and great accommodation are just some of the highlights. Look for flyer this edition of Trak and book early!

Birthday greetings to Tricia Lill, Bob Cini, Angela Williams, Rory Gibson, Bryan Young, Bill Smith, Aaron Maynard and Vicki Langdon.

’til next time

Girl Torque – March 2013

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Congratulations to Naomi and Darren on the birth of baby Lily.  Naomi, Darren and Lily joined us for the Technical Lunch which was great to welcome our newest member into the club!

Congratulations also to Pete and Nat Berlemon on the very early arrival of their baby son Samuel at 29 weeks, (grandparents Bill and Margie very excited) and I am pleased to report Samuel is doing very well although still in hospital.

Also Peter & Julie Davidge who became grandparents to a little boy.

The Ladies lunch tried out the new venue of Adeline’s Café at Burnside and it worked well with a varied menu, good facilities and more members attended.  We even had a couple of men join us which was great, and yes we did talk about cars!

Thanks to the ladies who have put their name on the Supper Roster – we still have a couple of spaces, so if you can help us out, please let Sue/Margie know.

New President’s Report – March 2013

Friday, March 1st, 2013

Firstly, thank you to all for your well wishes, encouragement and support as I step into the role of President of this amazing Club. I know with the support of these great people around me, I will be able to draw on many numerous years of experience, and inject a new energy into the committee, keeping the TSOA alive, vibrant and a great club to be a part of for many years to come.
Secondly, a big congratulations to Mike Temby for taking on board the Vice President role. We now have a full committee again, and I know that Mike is very enthusiastic about the year we have ahead also.
Would we have the lowest combined age of an executive committee since the clubs inception?
The months are flying by already, and there are many events coming up on the TSOA calendar, both social and competition. I am personally excited about getting my TR7 V8 back on the race track again, the break between MSCA events seems like an eternity. But I am also as keen to keep the Spitfire cruising and discovering new coffee stops and spending great time with TSOA friends on the social runs.
I truly enjoy the general meetings also, meeting new members, the focus on a couple of cars on stage and a delicious supper afterwards. I think we have a great regular routine, and I sincerely hope to just make each of these just a but more fresh and interesting as time goes by with the new committee.
As always, the committee welcomes any ideas and feedback from the members, we represent you.
Hope to see you all at an event soon . . . .
