PRESIDENT’S REPORT – APRIL 2026

Our club year continues with plenty of activity. There was a mid-week run to the Bridge Hotel at Langhorne Creek on
Thursday 9th April. Unfortunately, due to poor weather, only one member brought a Triumph to this lunch. The run to
Tenafeate Creek Wines at One Tree Hill, was however, blessed with better weather, despite some light misty rain
early on, and there was a great turnout of around 35 people in attendance. It was a very scenic route, and although
there was a small section of dirt road, we all got there safely and enjoyed a great pizza lunch.
Thanks to Lawrie and Kay Placing for organising the mid-week run, and to Dean Berlemon and Lisa Macleod who
organised the run to Tenafeate, albeit they are on holiday in New Zealand, and were in absentia. Our social secretary
team of Charlie and Carol Onody looked after all arrangements on the day, and it was greatly enjoyed by all in
attendance.
The club executive committee met prior to the April club meeting and resolved to endorse treasurer Lisa’s
recommendation to maintain subscriptions for 2026/27 at $60.00 for full members, and $30.00 for social members. I
advised attendees at our April meeting, and we have now sent out subscription renewal notices via email. If you have
not received a notice, please check your junk mail folder, or call me (ph 0412 823 789) ASAP.
We ask that all members ensure that subscriptions are paid by 30th June. We must notify the Registrar of Motor
Vehicles soon after this if anyone on the concessional registration scheme is unfinancial, and if so, their concessional
registrations are then cancelled. We are a club of around 250 members, and the treasurer’s task of administering this
number of members is already a complex and time-consuming task. Please do not make it more difficult by being slow
to pay subs.
We were very pleased to see life members, Bill and Margie Berlemon, and Rory and Sue Gibson at the Tenafeate run.
Bill and Rory have both had significant medical issues of late, which have limited their ability to attend club events. Bill
drove his green Mk2 saloon, which is back on the road, thanks to Ian Rigby’s help. Margie was at the April meeting,
and on the door, and it was great to see Margie at our club meeting.
We had two cars on stage at our April meeting, being Patrick Ryan’s TR4A, and Brad Thomas’s TR6.
Pat told us about his full restoration of his car, originally an American LHD import, doing almost all the work himself.
This included repainting it in a home-made booth at home. Although it looks very good, Pat wants to repaint it again at
some stage in the future. He drives the car regularly and is very happy with its performance.
Brad purchased his TR6 in a fully restored condition, and he told us about his long journey over some 38 years, from
when he first had a ride in a Mimosa Yellow TR6 whilst visiting America in 1979. He finally realised his dream some 8
years ago, purchasing this car. Brad does not drive his TR6 as often as he would like, however now he has got it out
to have it on stage, he hoped to start using it more often.
The annual club Weekender is scheduled for May 15th and 16th, based in Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley. There has
been a good take up with some 30 people attending. Despite Bill’s current health challenges, Bill and Margie
Berlemon have done a huge job organising this weekend. Sue and I will be overseas and unable to attend, but I am
sure that everyone there will have a great time.
In my absence at the May meeting, our vice president, Richard Sellers will be in the chair. Ian Rigby and his team will
be there to stamp logbooks and issue new ones where they have expired. You must be financial before your logbook
can be renewed. All logbooks need to be stamped prior to 30th June to ensure continuing registration.
