Around Australia in a TR2

July 15th, 2023. Submitted by Roger.

Our member Bill Galler came across these two intrepid travellers in Kingston SE – they are Bob and Robyn Adams from Victoria.

They are travelling around Australia in their 70 year old Triumph TR2, complete with trailer to carry essentials (and possibly some spare parts?)

What an adventure! We wish them well . . .

New Look

July 8th, 2023. Submitted by Roger.

Your website manager didn’t particularly like the look of the front page of our site . . . too fussy and a bit boring.

Posts to the site will now appear in date of lodgement order and users will need to scroll down for all the latest.

Something of particular interest may be left at the top of the list for a short time . . . like today’s photo!

Geoff Ellis is selling his lovely TR6 – have a look at the Classifieds section for more details.

Why not find something of your own to share and post it? It is not difficult, and if your need guidance contact me.

President’s Report – June 2023

June 27th, 2023. Submitted by Roger.

This year’s Weekender was arranged in late May, around the Riverland visiting Waikerie, Barmera and Loxton.  Highlights for Julie and I were the Waikerie Machinery Museum, Rocky’s Hall of Fame and Pioneers Museum (large country and western music section) at Barmera and accommodation at the Golf Club.  Unfortunately we had to leave early on Sunday as we were heading for a week in Melbourne but we’d already had a great time.  Thanks to Bill and Margie for another wonderful weekender.

Once again at our last meeting there was an excellent turn-up as members came along to get their logbooks signed off before the end of the financial year.  It was particularly pleasing to see the camaraderie that was displayed and the vigorous discussions taking place as members renewed friendships and common interests.

The night was added to by a spontaneous on-stage display of Mike Bonning’s MD MK1 Saloon with triple carbies.  A reasonably rare saloon in good condition which Mike picked up 3 years ago after a whirlwind trip to Queensland.  The car created quite a degree of interest despite Mike apologising for some of the paintwork.  Many thanks Mike.

Another reminder about the AGM, which is coming up at the August meeting.  A strong Club thrives because of strong participation by members at all levels.  Think about what you might do to contribute to the Club (particularly taking over Regalia or the Social Secretary positions) and let us know at the AGM or before.  All members of the Committee are available at any time to chat about their roles.

Some interesting Club events are coming up so check out the social calendar.   I look forward to seeing you in July (my second last meeting before we move to Melbourne) and then at the AGM.

Kind regards, Peter Davidge (President)

Socially Speaking July 2023

June 26th, 2023. Submitted by Roger.

The weekender ran well with 20 Adults and 1 Child attending.  The weather was kind to us for most part.  We had the Girl Guides cater for our two dinners, and they did an excellent job.  Most of us came home with pumpkins from Angelina’s farm, who made the pumpkin soup for Saturday night. The Riverland Wine Centre was excellent, and everyone enjoyed their tasting of the wines.

Sunday’s run to Middleton was great with 24 people enjoying lunch at the Middleton Tavern. Great run set by Rory and Sue.

Next month, on Sunday July 23rd we have decided to have a morning tea run to the Gumeracha Toy Factory.

Bill and I are stepping down as Social Secretaries, so we are hoping someone will put their hand up to take over!  The calendar of events is covered till December, so you would have a head start on upcoming events!

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – JUNE 2023

May 29th, 2023. Submitted by Roger.

What a magnificent TR5, owned and presented by Alex Smithson at our last Club meeting!  This is what you miss out on if you don’t attend monthly TSOA meetings.  With logbooks due for annual renewal there was a larger than normal attendance, all of whom were able to inspect a beautifully restored Triumph.  And excluding our annual membership fee (which must be paid before 30 June), all it cost was the price of a raffle ticket and that’s not mandatory either.  Great enjoyment and great value!

And a giant thank you to Ian Rigby who worked solely and solidly for the whole meeting so that all logbooks presented were updated.  Ian had just driven back from Victoria, arriving an hour or so before the meeting to ensure that logbooks would be renewed.

Kaye and Lawrie Placing, with their mid week runs, are getting us out and taking us to venues that we mightn’t otherwise visit.  Their May run took members to the Meadows Hotel and although I couldn’t make it, I believe there was a good turn out.  Thanks Kay and Lawrie for your enjoyable and enthusiastic contribution.

As I am writing, we are 1 day away from the next Berlemon Weekender, this time to Barmera and Loxton.   Julie and I, together with more than 18 others, are looking forward to another interesting event.

2 meetings ago Rod Chivas from TSOA NSW introduced us to the workings of the Australian Motor Heritage Foundation (AMHF). By chance I was able to present him with a poster celebrating Triumph’s 50-year anniversary of civilised motoring.

Rod subsequently sent us this photo indicating it had been professionally framed and would be proudly hung in AMHF premises for all to see. They will also acknowledge TSOA SA as a contributor on their web site.

Don’t forget to pay your subs and get your logbooks sorted before 30 June 2023.  And remember the AGM is not far away (August meeting) so start thinking about a position on the Committee.  Confirmed vacancies include the positions of President, Social Secretary and Regalia.

Check out the social calendar.   I look forward to seeing you in June.

Kind regards,

Peter Davidge (President)
