Socially Speaking – July 2013

Sunday, June 30th, 2013

The ETSA Playford Museum was a fantastic morning – the volunteers proudly showed us around the Museum, and it was fascinating…wow what a morning…thanks to Rory Gibson for organising this for us and Sue for organising the tea/coffee for us. Unfortunately only 14 members and 1 grandchild attended which was a embarrassment to the Club as we had advised that there would be 30 members present and volunteer staff were rostered to cater for the numbers. We finished off at Vili’s Café for Pie, Chips and Gravy and a good chin wag to finish off the morning.

Next event is the morning run across the northern freeways, highways and byways to be set by Bob and Lorraine Cini ….this will be their first run…..to the Slug and Lettuce Pub for a traditional English Lunch.  We have booked for the usual 30 however when we went last time about 50 people attended and had a great time! We will amend the final numbers on the morning.

Our social calendar for the rest of the year has now been decided upon in principal and full details will be provided as dates draw nearer. Anyone wanting to put a run together please contact me.

Socially Speaking – June 2013

Monday, June 24th, 2013

May was again a very busy month starting with the 6 hour regularity run at Mallala, then the mid week run and the annual weekender.

Mallala was a great day with a full team of Triumph’s and for those of us who don’t go racing a great way to participate in the event in some way.

Mid week run by all reports was a lot of fun and I hope to join in these when I retire!

Margie and I are sitting down writing this report on the Monday morning following the weekender and are very pleased with the results of this annual event. 41 Adults, 2 children and 2 babies made up the numbers and we feel confident everyone had a great time.  Happy to report 13 Triumph cars attended – strangely mostly TR7’s /8!  We self catered for dinner and breakfast which does create a lot of extra work, but we feel sure it creates good camaraderie within the club and again we thank all those who helped in making it a success.  All other meals were well enjoyed as was the final lunch at the Victor Harbor Golf Club offering magnificent views over the fabulous coastline. We covered 300km’s of great southern countryside exploring our scenic Fleurieu Peninsula. Our Studio Apartment accommodation at Victor Harbor Beachfront Caravan Park was first class as were the other cabins books for the weekend – they even supplied the pancakes and maple syrup for breakfast – fully recommend the Park for a holiday in the future!

June’s social activities are: Ladies lunch June 11th, followed by the ETSA Museum on the 16th June .

Please refer the back page of Trak for all future events.

Birthday wishes to:  Alex Smithson, Naomi Siegertsz, Tony Case, Barb Sampson, Dale Temby,                          Mal Jonas, and Kate Berlemon

Socially Speaking – April 2013

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

The mid week run on the 6th March went well and ended up at Hahndorf for coffee. The club run on the 17th March set by Dean and Tammy went well, and despite the cooler weather at Tenafeate Winery, the wood oven pizza and brushetta’s were delightful.  Many members tasted the wines and several bottles were purchased to consume at a later date. Thanks Dean and Tammy for putting the run together – a great first effort!

The next club run is the Annual Breakfast (Now Brunch) run on April 21st meeting at Burnside Town Hall at 9.00am….remember to bring along your food, tables, chairs, coffee etc to make this an enjoyable morning!

Mid Week run is set for Wednesday 8th May, meeting at Suzette’s at Burnside – see advert for more information.

May 5th is the MSCA 6 hour regularity at Mallala…come along and support the racing members..I am sure you will be most welcome. Support staff will be needed for the day – Contact Rick.

The Annual Weekender is fast approaching (May 25th and 26th) and Margie and I have set the run and confirmed all the bookings.  Remember this is the normal two day event..Saturday and Sunday.  Please bring your money to the April meeting but phone us now to place your booking.

The June run is set for Sunday June 16th.  Rory has organised for us to go to the ‘Sir Thomas Playford ETSA Museum’ at Kurralta Park. The Museum is dedicated to the collection of machinery and apparatus used by the Electricity Trust of South Australia (ETSA) and previously the Adelaide Electric Supply Company (AESCo), in the generation, distribution and use of electricity in South Australia. Further to that, the museum has a collection of commercial appliances and electrical equipment, which used electrical energy. The collection includes over 800 exhibits dating from the late 1890’s and throughout the 20th century. The museum collection includes a comprehensive range of electrical test instruments and energy meters covering early d.c. equipment used extensively in the late 1800’s through to the latest electronic instruments. A large collection of photographs of various AESCo and ETSA power stations, buildings, transport and activities is held along with house magazines from the first edition in 1925 until the last of the “Adelects” printed.

Socially Speaking – March 2013

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

All British Day at the Echunga Oval was a great day for all. With 880 British Cars to look at, food and fairs to be enjoyed by all. Great new venue and beaut weather all added to the day. A huge thank you to Arrand Ellery and those who assisted in any way to set up our club display.

Bob Cini has volunteered to join me on the ABD Committee next year to keep our club presence and involvement strong.

Ladies lunch held on the 12th February at the new venue Adelina’s Café at Burnside Civic Centre was also a good move. Numbers were up and a good time was had by all.  Next meeting will be at the same venue on 9th April.

Next mid week run is an afternoon run on 6th March followed by Sunday 17th March to Tenafeate Creek winery at One Tree Hill where we have enjoyed good food and fellowship before – my son Dean and wife Tammy have set this run – their very first attempt at setting a club run.

April 21st is a must diary date for our Annual Breakfast run which this year will be Brunch.

Margie and I have been busy organising this year’s annual weekender and have put together what we believe to be a fabulous program for this year. Some very interesting places to visit and great accommodation are just some of the highlights. Look for flyer this edition of Trak and book early!

Birthday greetings to Tricia Lill, Bob Cini, Angela Williams, Rory Gibson, Bryan Young, Bill Smith, Aaron Maynard and Vicki Langdon.

Girl Torque – March 2013

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Congratulations to Naomi and Darren on the birth of baby Lily.  Naomi, Darren and Lily joined us for the Technical Lunch which was great to welcome our newest member into the club!

Congratulations also to Pete and Nat Berlemon on the very early arrival of their baby son Samuel at 29 weeks, (grandparents Bill and Margie very excited) and I am pleased to report Samuel is doing very well although still in hospital.

Also Peter & Julie Davidge who became grandparents to a little boy.

The Ladies lunch tried out the new venue of Adeline’s Café at Burnside and it worked well with a varied menu, good facilities and more members attended.  We even had a couple of men join us which was great, and yes we did talk about cars!

Thanks to the ladies who have put their name on the Supper Roster – we still have a couple of spaces, so if you can help us out, please let Sue/Margie know.

Welcome to 2013!

The January informal meeting was held and the girls headed off for gelato and coffee and a chin wag….guess what we talked about? Cars! . . . . wow! What will happen next? It was great to have Barb Sampson with us for the evening but we were sorry Lorraine was not able to join us.

The Ice Cream run was great with many families joining in and the weather was kind to us.

The next ladies technical Lunch will be on Tuesday 12th February at Adelina’s Café at the Library, rear of Burnside Civic Centre at 12.00noon. (In the car park where we meet for Sunday runs)

Socially Speaking – January 2013

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

We finished off 2012 with a fabulous Christmas Dinner at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club. A great night of club fellowship and Trophies presented to their worthy recipients but best of all was the venue, the food and the service. The Royal Adelaide Gold Club knows how to host a great evening. Which brings me to the question of where do we hold our Christmas dinner this year? I surveyed about 20 people during and after the event and all but 1 strongly recommend we stay there. In the words of Life Member Tom Long, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!’  Thanks must go to Sue Gibson for organising such a great night.

The New Year started with our January casual meeting which was a good chance for the fellows to have a good chat and a beer, and the girls likewise had a natter with their gelato and coffee at CIBO’s.

Which brought us to last night’s Annual Ice Cream run to Noonies Café at Semaphore.  About 50 members, friends, and family enjoyed a great evening run finishing along the coast line timed perfectly for the sun set. The Café provided us with reasonable food and of course lots of ice cream! A good night was had by all.

February brings the All British Day with a very strong club representation of what promises to be a great event at our new venue – the Echunga Oval.

The annual MSCA Presentation Picnic will this year be held at the Mylor Oval on the 17th February.  Mylor Oval is a very picturesque setting in our beautiful Adelaide Hills so should provide for a great club display.  This is a BYO event. Look for details in advert from Rick in this Trak.

March club run on the 17th will be to Tenafeate Creek Winery at One Tree Hill. We have been to this venue once before and thoroughly enjoyed their food (wood oven pizza, Brushetta) wines and the stunning views.  I still recall Chuck and Dianne Falzon filling the back of the Roadster with cartons of wine!

February Birthday greetings to: Maree Staehr, Frankie Merritt, Joan Bowman, Cameron Elsdon and Neil Martin.

Till next time.

Socially Speaking – December 2012

I am writing this report following the fantastic run we had today for the ‘All Triumph Observation Run for the Tony Esau Memorial Trophy’, set by Ian and Raelene Rigby ….Wow what a day and what a run! Cryptic questions and for those of us who are competitive….what can I say?

Thanks to Ian and Raelene for a great run and to the ladies for providing the food for the club sponsored BBQ lunch and to Ian’s mate who assisted in the cooking of the meat. Congratulations to Alex and Sue Smithson who won the event,  Margie and I came a close second and Rory and Sue Gibson who came third.  Congratulations also to Chuck and Dianne who won the ‘nuts’ prize of the day with the count of the most bridges crossed on the run….or did they just guess???

The Christmas dinner is approaching with the Annual Trophy Presentation on Saturday 8th December at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club, I hope you have all booked in for this annual event.

The mid week run following Christmas is on Friday 28th December see flyer for information – and then another mid week run is scheduled on January 9th  – see the flyer.

We have received a flyer from the Mt Gambier Veteran and Vintage Car Club Inc contact Josh Crowe 0400256547 or fergytrekin@live.com.au re annual ‘Cave to Lake Tour’ from 25th -28th January 2013. Looks like a great event at a very reasonable cost – contact Josh for more information.

The informal club meeting for January is scheduled for January 15th at the club rooms – this is the night that the ladies head off for gelato and coffee and we have a bloke’s night inn….a great way to start the year.

The annual Ice Cream run is scheduled for Sunday 27th January – bring along your family and friends and enjoy an ice cream/coffee and the fun for the beginning of 2013.

Happy 70th Birthday to Alan Gold and to following members who celebrate their birthdays in December: Maureen Gold, Sue Taylor, Natalie Farrell and Margie Berlemon.
