Social Scene – May 2009

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

The ladies technical session was well attended with plenty of technical talk over lunch.

The weekender on 31/31 May to the mid north is well subscribed and I am sure will be a fun weekend.  Thanks to Bill and Margie for their efforts in organising.   A full report will be in next month’s TRAK.

The mid week run on Wednesday 10th June is being organised by Bill Smith and the meeting place is The Place Next Door Cnr Glynburn and Greenhill Roads Hazelwood Park at 10.30am for coffee before heading off for lunch at the Hampstead Hotel.

The Jazz Afternoon on Sunday 21st June is fast approaching.  Please contact Bob & Natalie to book your place.  This event is being organised as a fund raiser for the SA 2011 National Rally.

Girl Torque – May 2009

Well the weather has finally broken and we have had a decent amount of rain – isn’t it great!  It will be interesting to see the countryside on our weekender, as at Easter time when we planned the trip, the fields were so dry, it was amazing.

Our condolences go to Judie Long on the recent death of her mother in England. Our thoughts are with you Judie at this difficult time.

Get well wishes to Sue Gibson – we are looking forward to seeing you up and about again soon.

Don’t forget our technical meeting on Tuesday May 12th at Café Buongiorno at Mitcham.

I am looking forward to the weekender – let’s hope we have good weather!

See you all soon.

Girl Torque – April 2009

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Wow the first quarter of the year has just finished – where has the time gone?

We have been involved in two family weddings – my younger brother married in Melbourne on the Adelaide Cup weekend, and Bill’s son Dean gets married on April 4th.  Dean is having the two Triumphs’ as his wedding cars, so this week will be spent cleaning the two PI’s and polishing them and adding the wedding touches of tulle and ribbons!! I am sure there will plenty of photos of the cars to show off after the big day.

As we celebrate Easter may our thoughts be with a couple of members who are on the sick list – Sue Gibson (having more ankle surgery) and Bryan Young’s wife who is extremely unwell.

I have included the supper roster for the next three months – we still have a few vacancies so if you are able to help out, please let me know.
Date    Sweet    Savoury
21/4/09    Judi  Long    Judi Long
19/5/09    Lorraine Cini    Margie
16/6/09    Maree Staehr    Wendy Harvie

2009 Budget for supper is $50.00 – $20. 00 for sweet, $30.00 for savoury. Please keep your receipts and I will reimburse you from the raffle money. Many thanks

Have a safe and Happy Easter to all.

Girl Torque – March 2009

The ladies technical luncheon in February, was well attended and we even discussed the up and coming TSOA Events!  We felt lucky so all went in for the Big Lottery that was happening in the evening, and trusted Peggy to purchase the winning ticket….well she bought a ticket and we won $13.25……not a fortune between six people but enough to reinvest in the Saturday night….well what can I say except we gave that money to the Lottery Commission!!  Better luck next time!!

The Victorian Fires are foremost on our minds, and our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go to the families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.  Nearly everyone knows someone who has been affected in this tragedy and as Australians we all do our bit to help out when we can – please God let the fires get under control soon so people can begin to rebuild their lives.

The next technical luncheon is Tuesday 10th March at 12.00noon at Café Buongiornoat Mitcham  – see you all there!

Twenty people braved the heat of 4th February for the mid week run to Old Noarlunga for lunch.  Unfortunately no-one took their Triumph due to the heat – all preferring to travel in air conditioned comfort.

All British Day was held at Uraidla Oval and TSOA had 42 cars entered.  The weather was pleasant and there were many cars to look at as well as the Uraidla market over the road.  Thanks to everyone who assisted on the day.

The MSCA presentation day was held on the lawns of Peter Lehman Winery in Tanunda and those who attended enjoyed a picnic atmosphere under the trees.  Unfortunately TSOA did not win the trophy for the best presentation.

This year’s weekender is again being arranged by Bill& Margie and is going to the mid north area where we are staying at Paxton Cottages in Burra.   Finer details are still being organised and details will be in future issues of TRAK.   The cost is $200 per couple.   Please note the date is now 30th/31st May due to the Regularity event being run on 17th May.  Please phone Margie to book your place on 0438 836837.

A note for the diary – Sunday June 21st will see a fund raiser for the SA Nationals in 2011 in the form of a Jazz Afternoon at the Sporting Car Club rooms.   Bob & Natalie are organising this event which will feature The Danny Hodgson Trio and Samantha.  Further details will be available in the near future.

Welcome to 2009 and I hope everyone had a safe and happy Festive Season.

It is already the end of January and the calendar is filling up – a reminder that we have the first Ladies “Technical” Lunch on Tuesday 10th February at 12.00noon at Café Bongiourno at Mitcham do hope you can join us.

The Gelato and Coffee night in January went well and I hope everyone enjoyed the Fish and Chip and Ice-cream run that Judie and Tom organised.

The supper roster is beginning to fill, so if you can help where the vacancies are, please let me know.  I have increased the savoury budget to $30.00 but kept the sweet at $20.00. The raffle money should cover costs, so remember to keep your receipts.

Thanks for your help and see you all at the upcoming events!

Social Scene – December 2008

The ladies Technical Lunch was combined with a lunch to catch up with Peter & Jean Boxall from Hervey Bay, who were in town for a visit and it was a good opportunity for them to catch up with some SA members.

The Tony Esau Memorial Trophy run on 16th November was attended by 38 people and much to my abxolute surprise Rory & I were winners on the day.   We now have the pleasure of setting next year’s event.  Thanks to Team Temby for setting a run that took us through the suburbs and hills ending up at Hazelwood Park where everyone enjoyed a club sponsored BBQ.   Thanks go to all those people who helped on the day.   It was also good to see several of our newer members attend and enjoy the day.

The annual run to the Victory Hotel at Sellicks Beach has been booked for Monday 29th December.   This run is always popular and this year Bill Smith is setting the route.

Well girls talk about a technical lunch….we were infiltrated by the boys….really it was because we had Peter and Jean Boxall down from Hervey Bay for lunch…..it was great to catch up with them and share our Nationals stories.

Just a reminder that the January meeting is our coffee and gelato night – we leave the fella’s at the clubrooms for their informal meeting and we go off down King William Road to Cibo (maybe I should not have disclosed the details or they will come too!)

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very safe and happy festive season?

Social Scene – November 2008

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

I am sure everyone joins me in passing on our condolences to Margie and family on the recent passing of her father.   Also we wish Bob Cini a full and speedy recovery from his recent bout of pneumonia.

The mid week run on 1st October saw 13 people partake of a very blustery drive through the hills to Hahndorf where we enjoyed lunch at the German Arms Hotel.   A few members went straight to the Hotel and joined us there.    Thanks to Peggy & Brian Argent for organising this day.

The Day of Triumph was held at Bonython Park this year and congratulations to those members who won trophies.    The trophies will be presented at the Christmas Dinner.   Thanks to all those people who assisted.

Thanks to David & Eva Treen for organising the run on 19th October which saw a large number of members enjoy a run through the southern vales, albeit a bit damp at times, to Myponga, where we had time to browse through the market before heading back to their home where we all enjoyed a BBQ lunch with salads provided by the Club and “yummy” desserts by Eva and David.

The final ladies lunch for this year is on Tuesday 11th November at Café Buongiorno at Mitcham.  Hope to see you there.

The run for the Tony Esau Memorial Trophy is on Sunday 16th November and there will be a Club sponsored BBQ at the destination.   This year’s run is set by Team Temby so come along, bring a clipboard and pen, table, chairs and drinks and enjoy a fun day out.  The winner of the trophy must be driving a Triumph.

The Christmas Dinner and Trophy Presentation is on Saturday 13th December at Royal Adelaide Golf Club, and payment in full is required by this month’s meeting please. The annual run to the Victory Hotel in December has had to be changed to Monday 29th December (advertised as Sunday 28th in Oct magazine) as the Hotel cannot accommodate us on the Sunday.   This has always been a very popular run and may the trend continue.

Please remember there will be no general meeting in December.
